"Built to Last"

Mar 8, 2026    Pastor J. Leon Gant Jr.

“Built to Last” argues that spiritual life is not an impulsive experience but an intentional formation. Paul describes the church as a living structure that is meant to grow from spiritual infancy to the fullness of Christ. Immaturity is pictured as instability: a soul tossed by trends, emotions, and manipulation. Maturity, however, is not achieved through isolated striving but through truth fused with love, practiced in community connection, where each person contributes to the health of the whole. Philippians 1:6 anchors the sermon in metaphysical hope: the self is not a finished product but a divine construction project—initiated, sustained, and completed by God. In Christ, especially through Calvary and resurrection, we see God’s commitment to finishing what He starts; therefore, believers can endure the mess of the process without surrendering the meaning of purpose. The sermon invites the congregation to move from membership to maturity, from trend-driven faith to anchored discipleship, becoming a people whose stability testifies that God builds with eternity in mind.
